Looking for your next read? Each month I’ll be highlighting my favorite titles. Usually, this will be legal thrillers, mystery/suspense, and politics. But don’t be surprised if a biography or historical fiction shows up just to keep things interesting!
List Title: The President is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton
In a Nutshell: The President is Missing is a political thriller that centers on the possibilities of cyber-terrorism. Over three days, the story follows U.S. President Jonathan Lincoln Duncan as he races against time to find a traitor in his Cabinet and prevent a massive cyberattack that could cripple the nation. The President is Missing is filled with information that only a former commander in chief could know; thus making it not only one of the most authentic, but terrifying novels to come along in many years.
My Take: I saw James Patterson and Bill Clinton on Colbert when the book was hot. Although I am a Patterson reader, I’m not a huge fan. However, the book sounded good, and I was intrigued since Patterson collaborated with one of my favorite presidents, so I bought the book. Then, admittedly I got busy, and it sat on my shelf for months.
Recently, I finally got to sit down and give it a try, and I'm glad I did. President Clinton's involvement made the characters real, and you could sense his input on the inner workings of the White House and the Presidency. Politics aside, this could have been any president from either side of the aisle, and, for me, that made the book fascinating. I was a reluctant participant, but the novel draws you in and keeps you there. I highly recommend it to “West Wing” or “Designated Survivor” fans.
